Department of Sustainability – Growth and new perspectives

A lot of things have changed since the beginning of the Guangala Sustainability program in 2013. In 2014, we accomplished to bring together almost 30 cocoa plantations to our program. For the end of the year 2015, we project a growth of 60% in certified cocoa area. Working with these farms, we will reach around a 1000 workers. Taking into account the families and employment related to the activities of our member farms, this means a social impact on the lives of almost 4000 people. This growth is due to the relentless work of Jaime Zea, the heart and soul of the sustainability department with decades of experience in the world of cocoa.

We want this rapid growth to continue. In order to keep providing the best service to our members and to reach more producers with our program, the sustainability team was reinforced with two young specialists. In March 2015, Lorenz Maurer, a young German agronomist joined the department, followed by Fabrice Douay, a French engineer in business administration. They will complement the experience of Jaime Zea with technical knowledge and new perspectives.

To create an ideal space of work for this growing team, the office dedicated to the sustainability department was remodeled.
